125 sec

Lateshia Peters, representing BK ROT, a fossil fuel-free food waste hauling and composting service, testified in opposition to Intro 57 and in support of Intros 498, 698, and 284. She expressed concerns about the impact of financial penalties on low-income communities and urged for more education and collaboration with youth organizations.

  • BK ROT opposes Intro 57, suggesting it would harm low-income communities they serve
  • Peters advocated for education and collaboration with community organizations instead of financial penalties
  • She expressed support for composting programs in schools (likely referring to Intro 284, though the number was misstated in the transcript)

And I'm here to talk about, my opposition or the B.

Opposition to Law 57 and in support of 498, 698 and 2 84.
2:51:49
And in terms of the opposition, 4 57, BK ROT believes that, punishing people financially wouldn'twould be misaligned and would cause more harm to the, low incomelow income communities that we serve.
2:52:11
So we urge, the committee to reassess options that would encourage education or even connecting with other organizations such as yourself or community gardens to promote more education about environmentalism and also sanitation laws.
