Council Member Eric Dinowitz inquires about CUNY's existing resources and support systems for victims of hate crimes or discrimination. Chancellor Felix Matos Rodriguez outlines the current support structures in place across CUNY campuses.
- Support for victims can come from chief diversity officers, offices of student affairs, or HR departments, depending on whether the victim is a student, faculty, or staff member.
- Mental health support for students is typically housed in student affairs offices.
- CUNY acknowledges that implementing a dedicated victim's advocate program, as recommended in the Lippman report, would likely require additional resources.

Thank you.
2:29:13
I wanna look at number 3, and then I'll go back to my colleagues for questions.
2:29:19
I stated in the report, there are I'm sorry.
2:29:24
What does this is about providing additional resources to victims of anti Semitism and discrimination through establishment of a victim's advocate program.
2:29:32
Now, of course, you mentioned in previous testimony earlier today, talking to victims, my response was we can't just look at the victim.
2:29:40
We do have to look at discipline, but I do actually wanna explore, the victim advocate, for a sec.
2:29:47
What does CUNY currently provide for victims of hate crimes or discrimination, acts of bias?
Felix Matos Rodriguez
2:29:54
So those, support system can come from either the chief diversity officer who's working, with the individual in the in the in the case that's being investigated.
2:30:06
If they're students, it'd be through the office of student affairs that provide support for the students.
2:30:12
In in many of those cases, the mental health and those kinds of supports are housed in student affairs.
2:30:18
If they're faculty and staff, obviously, that'd be an HR function on, on our campuses.
2:30:23
So we have a number of those, spaces where the support for victims is done.
2:30:30
And, again, this is a very, novel recommendation from from LIPMAN.
2:30:36
We probably require additional resources to be able to to do this, and we're thinking as to, for example, is that something that requires either a presence on every campus, can be done globally, so we're exploring that, and but we probably need additional resources to do any kind of configuration base, if you did exactly what the report said.
2:30:56
Well, I
Eric Dinowitz
2:30:57
mean, I I you may say it's not a novel recommendation, but it is one that's obviously necessary.
2:31:01
Otherwise, it wouldn't have been recommended.
2:31:04
It wouldn't have been the 3rd recommendation.
2:31:07
If if a student reports to the portal, we've talked about how they're now going to get immediate feedback updates.
2:31:17
Do they also get information about victim services?
