Last week, I announced that we will be convening a freedom of expression working group, tasked with developing a university wide policy that reflects the purpose and nature of higher education and considers the appropriate balance of interest recognized by the first amendment and the principles of academic freedom.

This affirmation of the primacy of free expression of our university is something that many members of our community, including the leadership of the university faculty senate, have wanted to see for some time and that addresses directly recommendation number 10 in the Littmann report.
