Professor Avraham Goldstein of CUNY shares his experience reporting antisemitic and potentially dangerous posters on campus, highlighting the administration's inadequate response and calling for external oversight in implementing the Lippman report's recommendations.

  • Reported posters calling for intifada and communist revolution near his classroom
  • Complaint about safety was mishandled as a discrimination investigation
  • No response received from CUNY administration regarding the incident
  • Argues that CUNY administration is complicit in enabling systemic issues and cannot be trusted to implement Lippman report recommendations themselves

Hello, and thank you for this panel.
4:55:41
So I am professor of mathematics at BMCC CUNY.
4:55:44
So first, I want to speak about this concrete event which happened this April.
4:55:50
I saw posters near the classroom where I teach, calling for intifada with pictures of Hamas, fighter or terrorist, I should say, and calling for communist revolution.
4:56:03
Are your Marxists joining the revolution?
4:56:06
I reported those, posters officially from my BMC email to our president.
4:56:12
A few hours later, I got email from the DEI office asking me and I provided pictures, videos which I documented, asking me if I know, who put them and how and how they're put.
4:56:24
And, basically, they informed me that the investigation has been open.
4:56:27
Investigation of discrimination, which I never filed.
4:56:30
I filed safety, complaint.
4:56:32
I said that it's dangerous.
4:56:33
There's a, terrorist group putting posters calling for violence on the campus.
4:56:37
And there were cameras there.
4:56:39
And in my videos, you see there were cameras.
4:56:41
And they asked the administration to investigate.
4:56:44
Instead, there is an investigation open for more than could be against me.
4:56:48
I wrote several emails including to chancellor and Derek Davis who was here today, both to his official mail and to and to the office, which he leads.
4:56:57
Till today, I didn't get an answer.
4:57:00
Did they see look at the camera.
4:57:03
Who who am I investigating?
4:57:05
Am I my witness in this investigation?
4:57:07
Is it investigation against me because I reported it?
4:57:09
So this is an example.
4:57:10
What I'm trying to to say is that report is, like, maybe a good report, but it leaves vague who will implement it.
4:57:17
While the administration, both central and on the president level, are complicit in enabling in in systemic and systematities.
4:57:27
We try to shut down the stories.
4:57:28
You cannot let them investigate themselves and implement against themselves the policies which Lippmann recommends.
4:57:35
It has to be a totally neutral outside body who will do it in a transparent way.
4:57:41
This is what I wanted to say.
