And our today, our committee is holding a hearing on 4 pieces of legislation related to youth mental health, which is the focus of the next stop on the council's mental health roadmap.

First bill is intro number 986, sponsored by council member Rita Joseph, which would establish a pilot program to involve mental health professionals and professional candidates in student wellness clubs in middle school public middle and high schools.

Intro 989, sponsored by myself, would require the creation of student wellness club tool kits.

These toolkits, which must be distributed, toolkits which must be distributed to all New York City public school students, would be designed to provide students with a comprehensive overview of how to start a student wellness club at their school, including the approval process as well as suggestions for curriculums and peer led activities.

The toolkits would allow students to personalize their clubs in a way that works best for them and their fellow students.

Intro number 996, sponsored by council member Althea Stevens, would require the creation of a peer to peer mental health training program to be offered in New York City public schools.

And intro number 1103, sponsored by deputy speaker Diana Ayala, would require community outreach by the health department regarding the availability of mental health counseling in response to violent and traumatic incidents.
