Council Member Hanif inquires about the translation of sex education materials and inclusion of students with limited English proficiency. DOE representatives explain their efforts to make materials accessible in multiple languages.

  • Materials developed by the DOE are translated into multiple languages.
  • Some recommended curricula, like HealthSmart, are available in Spanish.
  • The extent of translation depends on the source of the materials and available resources.
  • Curricula include tips for teachers on working with multilingual learners.
  • Student-facing resources are translated as much as possible.

Yeah.
1:53:25
It it definitely depends on the materials, I would say.
1:53:28
So the ones that we develop are translated into multiple languages.
1:53:32
Some of the curricula our recommended curricula, like HealthSmart, is available in Spanish, and then other materials, you know, that we may get from partner organizations.
1:53:41
It will depend on whether they or we have, you know, are are able to translate those things.
1:53:47
All of our curriculum also include, tips for teachers on working with, especially a class of multiple, language learners.
1:53:54
Right?
1:53:54
And so, if you're not just providing instruction in 1 or 2 languages, but many, what are some tips on how to how to do that?
