Thank you, majority leader.
1:43:06
I just wanna thank my community members who took the time to wrestle with this very, very challenging proposal.
1:43:14
I also wanna echo the accolades for land use.
1:43:18
You guys are the best.
1:43:19
Thank you for coming out to my district and making yourself available for town halls.
1:43:24
I wanna thank the speaker, and her team, council member Sanchez for your leadership, and everybody who worked to really shape and pull together the city for all plan.
1:43:37
And just to say that I, you know, I I recognize this process has been very, very difficult for my community, and I acknowledge that at the heart of a lot of their concerns is deep distrust in our government.
1:43:51
They they don't feel protected, from speculation.
1:43:55
They don't feel protected from harassment.
1:43:57
They don't feel protected from people who wanna steal their properties.
1:44:02
They don't feel protected from slumlords, and we really need to do more to protect and defend them.
1:44:08
And I believe the investment that was secured, starts to address these concerns, and we have a lot more to do.
1:44:15
But I, you know, I think it's really a shame to hear some members here today diminish this $5,000,000 investment, for our communities as monopoly money.
1:44:27
Because while some of those members might see, homeowner down payment assistance funding or, funding to help, you know, elders keep their their apartments and their buildings up to code or free legal support for tenants and homeowners.
1:44:43
You might see that as nothing, but I can guarantee that there are people in your districts who damn well need that support.
1:44:50
And I think that kind of characterization is foolish.
1:44:55
I do wanna thank the base coalition for their advocacy work, and really fighting for the ADUs and basement conversions and helping us take meaningful steps to, create safe, habitable basement level apartments.
1:45:10
And lastly, I just wanna thank my team for helping me navigate this difficult process.
1:45:14
I vote aye.
1:45:14
Thank you.
