You want me
Ydanis Rodriguez
1:15:11
to elaborate a little bit more on what I'm doing?
Selvena N. Brooks-Powers
1:15:14
On, like, how do you how do you feel like these type of in infrastructure investments support, or improve safety?
Ydanis Rodriguez
1:15:24
Yeah.
1:15:25
Being
Selvena N. Brooks-Powers
1:15:26
And not just safety for the cyclists, but, like, pedestrians and motorists as well.
Ydanis Rodriguez
1:15:30
Yeah.
1:15:31
Being look.
1:15:32
I always tell people that what we are right now is like thinking about the industrial revolution where people talk about there's old machine there, they're taking the joy away from all, they're destroyed.
1:15:42
At the end of the day, that's a progress that we made in society.
1:15:45
Today, more people are using bike.
1:15:49
More people are using e bike.
1:15:52
More people are using a scooter.
1:15:54
Think about that those individuals will be you will be behind the wheel in a car instead of having a scooter or a bike.
1:16:02
You know, 25% of the or the pollution that we have in the city come from our vehicle.
1:16:07
So we do understand that if you live in some places in the South Bronx, in South Queens, the other place, if we live in a transportation desert area, we had to connect with public transportation.
1:16:18
76% of people who live in the borough of Manhattan, they don't have car.
1:16:21
But we had a great a great train in bus system.
1:16:25
And that's why we have, like, 4,000,000 people using the train every day.
1:16:29
A 1000000 people using the bus every day.
1:16:32
But also that 200,000,000 bike trips is part of our life.
1:16:36
And that's why we want to continue conversation to look on how can we make improve with those reckless one by recognizing that the vast majority of those individual who are using their bike, their e bike, they're respectful to pedestrians, and they can be role model for those small percentage that are reckless one.
