Ellen Sandals, a long-time New York City resident, testifies in support of Intro 606 and stricter regulation of e-vehicles. She expresses concern about the deterioration of quality of life due to the increase of motorized vehicles and emphasizes the need for licensing and registration of e-vehicle users.

  • Criticizes Transportation Alternatives as a funded lobbying group that doesn't represent the majority of New Yorkers
  • Argues that street design alone won't solve the e-vehicle problem
  • Supports the use of identifiable plates and cameras for enforcement rather than relying on NYPD

Hi.
7:10:56
Yes.
7:10:56
Hi.
7:10:57
I'm Ellen Sandals, and I've lived in New York City since 1978.
7:11:02
We've already discussed the 3 year old girl who was hit by the moped, and the gentleman was not identifiable, so he walked off.
7:11:10
If this story happened more than 5 years ago, I probably would have been surprised.
7:11:15
But as the quality of life in our city has deteriorated with the increase of eviocles, these vehicles with motors, these kinds of stories are no longer surprising.
7:11:27
What is surprising is that the majority of New Yorkers who are against the increase of these eviocles are having to fight so hard to be heard by our elected representatives.
7:11:39
Hopefully, this hearing will make a difference and things will change.
7:11:43
I do wanna repeat what the gentleman the last gentleman said about transportation alternatives.
7:11:49
It is a funded lobbying group that does not represent the majority of New Yorkers.
7:11:55
I am not going to repeat all their talking points.
7:11:58
They have not made a good argument as to how a street design is going to deal with this problem.
7:12:05
I also don't understand why people who are using vehicles who like them are against having a license.
7:12:12
We have plenty of people who have cars and they're licensed and registered.
7:12:16
So why shouldn't somebody with an e vehicle have a license and be registered?
7:12:22
They could still use it.
7:12:24
So I think those are just really red herrings.
7:12:28
Lastly, I am certainly for intro 60 6, Priscilla Law.
7:12:33
I think identifiable plates and cameras can do the job rather than the NYPD.
7:12:40
We don't need more bike lanes or different bike lanes.
7:12:43
We just need common sense regulation of e vehicles and their riders.
