Hi.
6:13:14
My name is Florence Friedman.
6:13:16
A year ago at 7:30 PM, I was knocked down by a motorized bicycle riding on the sidewalk on West 14th Street and 6th Avenue on the sidewalk.
6:13:30
The rider who appeared to be a delivery man did not stop.
6:13:35
I was a in a state of shock, but fortunately, there was a good Samaritan who called the police and an ambulance.
6:13:44
The police took all my information, but, of course, I had no information about the assailant.
6:13:50
The bike had no license plate.
6:13:54
He sped away.
6:13:56
I spent hours in the emergency room and left with a cast on my broken wrist.
6:14:03
The sidewalks and the streets of Manhattan are the wild west.
6:14:08
Everybody seems to agree on that.
6:14:11
But why is that?
6:14:12
Why is it that the streets of Manhattan are the wild west?
6:14:17
Cars stop at pedestrian crosswalks.
6:14:20
Why do they stop?
6:14:21
Cars stop at red lights.
6:14:24
Why do cars stop?
6:14:27
They stop because they know that if they don't stop, they're gonna have to pay a hefty fine or maybe go to jail.
6:14:36
You don't get cooperation by education.
6:14:40
I'm all for education.
6:14:41
You don't get cooperation adherence to the law by education.
6:14:47
You get it by accountability.
6:14:50
Why do roads for ebikes don't get you accountability?
6:14:55
This panel knows that.
6:14:57
I know that.
6:14:58
Everybody knows that, and I don't know why we talk about it so much and don't do something about it.
6:15:07
I don't know why it's so hard to pass Priscilla's law when we all know that a license plate works on cars and it will work on bicycles.
