Good afternoon.
3:29:46
My name is Liz O'Young, and I'm a civil rights attorney, teacher, and advocate.
3:29:50
I am here today as a beloved friend of the late Priscilla Locke and a proud member of the eVehicle Safety Alliance.
3:30:02
There is no greater legitimacy than a grassroots organization, one that was created by the people.
3:30:15
This coalition is multivast, young and old, of all different races, of all different ages, of all different economic ability.
3:30:27
Why?
3:30:28
Because of safety.
3:30:30
This is and always has been an issue of safety.
3:30:37
I ask that you not let racism, politics, paid lobbyists, or businesses trump safety.
3:30:49
When we talk about Priscilla Locke, she died literally just blocks from this city hall in one of the poorest neighborhoods of this county.
3:31:04
And to the person that just testified, yes, you're right.
3:31:09
The biker who hit her stayed on the scene.
3:31:12
And guess what?
3:31:13
The police let him go.
3:31:15
And for 3 weeks, we couldn't find an answer.
3:31:19
It is the community who held a press conference to get answers.
3:31:24
And that's exactly why 606 needs to be passed, because the community needs to know who hit them, who killed their loved one.
3:31:36
We cannot rely on a system that doesn't deliver safety in order to get answers.
3:31:42
There has to be an independent way.
3:31:45
Secondly, that not only did New York City, but the Chinese American community lost a treasured jewel.
3:31:55
She was a selfless leader committed to making adolescent children independent, responsible and accountable to society.
3:32:05
She was robbed of her golden retirement years.
3:32:09
I ask, and I ask on behalf of our community, that you don't rob her of her principles of accountability.
