·

109 sec

Patrick DiRoma testified in opposition to Intro 606 and in support of Intro 1131, highlighting perceived inconsistencies and hypocrisies in arguments made by supporters of Intro 606 during the hearing. He addressed concerns about enforcement, bike lane usage, and the comparative danger of e-bikes versus cars.

  • Criticized claims that Intro 606 wouldn't bring back "stop and frisk" while seeming to support such practices
  • Challenged assertions about bike lanes being "ugly" or "empty" as revealing anti-bike sentiments
  • Emphasized the effectiveness of protected bike lanes and daylighting as solutions to e-bike-related issues
  • Disputed characterizations of opposition arguments, particularly regarding claims of racism

Okay.
7:48:19
So I wanted to say that I I posed interest 606 and support 1131.
7:48:25
I just wanted to note some of the hypocrisy that I've heard during this, hearing.
7:48:30
There are people that said this would not bring back stop and frisk, but also were seemingly cheering on the idea of bringing back stop and frisk.
7:48:39
There were people who claimed to be anti that they were not anti bike, but then went on to call bike lanes ugly and claiming that they're always empty or that cyclists are sneering at them, which just kinda gives the game away.
7:48:54
I heard somebody claim that ebikes and cars do the same amount of damage when crashing into a pedestrian, which is psychotic.
7:49:02
I also heard various supporters, including, various councilmen, claiming that there are no solutions being provided to those who are in opposition to 606, while ignoring everybody who is saying that protected bike lanes will reduce ebikes ebike riders being on sidewalks, which is true, and also ignoring the, solution of daylighting, which is what you actually can use to solve issues at the corner as was noted.
7:49:34
I also noted that everybody, that a lot of people in opposite that were supporting 606 were claiming that, people in opposition to it are calling them racist, which is simply not true.
7:49:49
They're claiming that the bill would enable racist enforcement that is not calling any supporter of 606 racist.
7:49:56
But if you interpret it that way, that sounds like telling on yourself.
7:50:00
If you want to register anything, I would probably start with that woman who was threatening to hit people with her cane.
7:50:06
Thank you.
