Council Member Rita C. Joseph asks Commissioner Jess Dannhauser to explain the aftercare process for closed ACS cases. Dannhauser describes the preventive services and support systems in place for families after case closure.
- Aftercare primarily consists of preventive services, with a full continuum of support available.
- ACS serves about 32,000 children and their families in preventive services annually, making it the nation's largest continuum of such services.
- The agency is expanding its services through initiatives like family enrichment centers, childcare vouchers, and school-based early support programs.

What does aftercare look like when a case is closed?

Can you walk us through that?
Jess Dannhauser
1:16:12
Aftercare would look like prevention, and so, this is we have a full continuum of services.
1:16:19
We have services that are geared towards, family, services that are geared towards family treatment, services that are geared to navigating families to, supports and services, meeting concrete needs.
1:16:36
We serve about 32,000 children and their families in preventive services every year.
1:16:42
This is the nation's biggest continuum of preventive services.
1:16:47
We are adding to that, as you know, family enrichment centers.
1:16:50
A ton of the work that we've been doing around childcare and low income vouchers, I think, is very important to the well-being of children and their families.

And so each piece that we are adding to school based early support is adding to that continuum.
