Council Member Stevens inquires about ACS's participant surveys and introduces questions about the CARES model. Commissioner Dannhauser provides information on survey administration and briefly touches on the effectiveness of preventive services.

  • Surveys are confidential but not anonymous, with about 2,000 participants last year
  • Less than 5% of families who completed preventive services have a reindication in the next 6 months
  • Less than 2% of families who completed preventive services have an entry into foster care

You talked a little about your the survey that you guys do, at the for participants, and I know you said, like, 94% of the, folks who have taken the survey, it's usually positive feedback.
0:36:29
Is the survey anonymous?
0:36:30
How how is it distributed?
0:36:32
How do you administer that?
Jess Dannhauser
0:36:35
It's administered through the agencies, and it's confidential.
0:36:40
We don't see it's not anonymous, but we don't get the information on sort of who filled out what in particular.
0:36:46
We get the, sort of, macro data.
0:36:48
It's about 2,000 participants who, filled it out last year.
0:36:52
Anything you'd wanna add?
Althea V. Stevens
0:36:57
We
Michelle D. Winfield
0:36:57
had, sorry.
Luisa Linares
0:36:58
Mhmm.
0:36:58
Yeah, about 20, 2000, and we had about 31%, respond rate, from families, across, the city.
Althea V. Stevens
0:37:09
Is there a reason why you haven't opted opted to do more of an anonymous because we know you probably get different results?
Jess Dannhauser
0:37:17
No.
0:37:18
No reason.
0:37:18
A lot of providers, use a a variety of ways of, parent roundtables.
0:37:24
Some of them have, at Grand Wyndham, we used to have a kiosk where people could say happy or not.
0:37:30
Mhmm.
0:37:31
And lots of different that.
0:37:32
Yeah.
0:37:32
A lot of different ways where they're trying to get feedback, and we are encouraging providers to have access, to come to have so parents have access to them so that they can give their feedback about what's working and what's not.
0:37:47
Obviously, it's also, if we make our services accessible to families and what families believe is helpful, we'll see more families come to us voluntarily.
0:37:58
And that to me is ultimately what is really, really key.
0:38:01
We know also that preventive services is effective in reducing, the likelihood of repeat maltreatment and entry into foster care.
0:38:10
So, less than about 5% of families who graduated, completed preventive services, have a reindication in the next 6 months, and less than 2% have an entry into foster care.
0:38:23
It's it's closer to 1% than 2%.
Althea V. Stevens
0:38:25
Well, listen.
0:38:26
I know that a big a big push you've been really hyper focused on has has been around, like, trying to get, the numbers down for folks going into foster care and preventative services has been something that you've been hyper focused on, which I really appreciate because I don't honestly, don't feel like that's been a priority for any commissioner.
0:38:45
But it's really good to see a lot of these programs.
0:38:48
But, I just wanna make sure we we continue to, like, push on it.
0:38:51
I wanna change gears a little bit to talk about the CARES model a little bit.
0:38:57
Can you outline the process for ACS following, after receiving a report from from SCR?
0:39:03
Specifically, how does a respond, differ between a traditional investigations case assigned in a CARES track?
