Council Member Chris Banks inquires about NYCHA's budgetary outlook for sustainability and weatherization goals. Siobhan Watson provides a detailed breakdown of funding and projects.

  • Over $3 billion spent on Sandy program resiliency work
  • $169 million in CDBG-DR funding related to tropical storm Ida, including green infrastructure and mitigation projects
  • $100 million worth of 'cloudburst' work for stormwater management
  • Multiple ongoing and planned cloudburst projects at various NYCHA developments
  • Continuous studies to identify vulnerable properties and maintain a pipeline of projects for hazard mitigation programs

Alright.
1:44:23
From from a budgetary, outlook, how is NYCHA accounting for present and future budget concerns as they pertain to, sustainability and weatherization goals?
1:44:34
And how much money is, being spent and, on on and budgeted for the resilience work?
Siobhan Watson
1:44:43
Sure.
1:44:44
So, you know, as we mentioned, the Sandy program, of course, has over $3,000,000,000 that's been spent on the resiliency work there.
1:44:53
In addition, we are working to secure our, FEMA grants for the effects of tropical storm Ida.
1:45:02
The CDBG Doctor funding that is also related to Ida, for NYCHA totals about a $169,000,000.
1:45:11
That is split between a green infrastructure program, local match, and additional mitigation funds related to the FEMA award as well as the Hope Gardens program that's being implemented at Hope and Bushwick Gardens.
1:45:25
In addition, we have about a $100,000,000 worth of cloud burst work going on.
1:45:30
So that is work where we are modifying landscapes to both provide an improved experience of grounds on a day to day basis, but also incorporate grounds on a day to day basis, but also incorporate stormwater management into the open spaces on NYCHA properties.
1:45:45
And so we have actually our 1st cloudburst project that was developed in cooperation with DEP in construction now at South Jamaica Houses.
1:45:50
Okay.
1:45:51
Construction now at South Jamaica Houses.
1:45:55
Okay.
1:45:56
We have one at Clinton Houses where design is wrapping up and we will be moving forward into the construction procurement phase this year.
1:46:06
At Jefferson houses, we have a grounds project that should be going into construction shortly, that incorporates that cloudburst level of stormwater management.
1:46:16
And then, we have 4 additional sites that are in the early stages of design in our cloudburst program.
UNKNOWN
1:46:22
Yeah.
Siobhan Watson
1:46:22
We also have a number of studies where we are continuing to look at which properties are going to be vulnerable in the future to increased incidence of coastal storms and storm water.
1:46:35
And we are working to kind of keep a pipeline of projects that can be funded through hazard mitigation programs so that we have consistent, a consistent source of kind of applications for new work in that area.
