Council Member Darlene Mealy asks Beverly MacFarlane about the number of Section 3 job positions NYCHA tenants received. MacFarlane provides information about job placements and wage issues for residents.

  • Approximately 5 residents obtained jobs through Section 3
  • Workers initially paid $18.20/hour instead of the required $45.43/hour
  • Issue persisted for 18 months before being addressed through advocacy

Could you, tell me how many, title 3 positions your tenants receive to get the jobs from NYCHA?
Beverly MacFarlane
2:38:56
Well, but as far as, when the section 3 jobs I was advocating, so I did have many of my residents that I I had OSHA 30 40 license, they were able to get, I we only had about maybe 5 altogether.
2:39:17
Was able to get a job between STV and the but I found out that they did not get they they verified that, but a lot of these guys, 18 months, did not get the, full pavilion wages until my advocacy.
2:39:45
But they didn't get back pay for the 18 months that they were working at $18.20 an hour.
2:39:53
Meanwhile, they're supposed to be getting $45.43 an hour.
Darlene Mealy
2:39:57
Okay.
2:39:58
Keep advocating, and let us know.
2:40:01
$25 an hour is a is what they should have been paying those 18 months also.
2:40:09
So please keep us abreast of that.
