We'll we'll talk online.
3:01:50
I would love to see what those programs look like, and where I'm sure if I were to talk to any violence interrupt group, I'm sure there's a lot of gaps that can be filled in, when it comes around to young people.
3:02:04
And and one of the things, we also see is how are you engaging young people?
3:02:10
Because we always tend to say, oh, we're doing this for the young people, but we never engage them in conversation, and I'm big on making sure young people are at the table, because we always wanna do things for them but not with them.
3:02:20
How are we engaging young people to make sure that their voices are heard?
3:02:24
Because their needs, I can go and say, as the education chair, oh, this is what young people need, and turn around and they're like, nah, chair.
3:02:30
That's not what we need.
3:02:31
This is what we need.
3:02:32
How are you engaging young people in this conversation?
Jeffrey Maddrey
3:02:34
I mean, I I would really have to drill down to the command and officers and what they do in each precinct because every precinct does something a little different.
3:02:42
One thing I stress to to the commanders and to the cops is they're a group of young people who you don't really need to talk to.
3:02:49
They'll come to the precincts.
3:02:50
They'll come to the programs.
3:02:51
They'll join the explorers.
3:02:53
You know, it doesn't require a lot.
3:02:56
We really have to go to the corners and talk to the young people who don't wanna deal with us.
Rita Joseph
3:02:59
The the young people we haven't seen, the young people that have not attended school when they should be in school, those are the young people we need to target.
3:03:04
Those are the young people we also need to bring to the table to have conversations with as to what's happening.
3:03:09
Is it is it employment?
3:03:10
Is it housing security?
3:03:12
What are you facing that needs you that drives you there?
3:03:14
Because when I visit my young people, unfortunately, my my portfolio goes all the way into East River Academy.
3:03:20
It's the no engagement, no nothing happening in communities to keep them engaged.
Jeffrey Maddrey
3:03:26
I agree, and we need to work together and work in our communities to do more of that.
3:03:31
We need to keep the young people engaged.
3:03:33
What we've been seeing in the last few years is not good, and we're just seeing the gun violence rising.
3:03:37
We're seeing crime rising.
3:03:39
We're seeing, you know, young the victimization being or, rising, and we need to get in front of that.
