I am so excited that today we have a street co naming in honor of the legacy and life of the late Elizabeth Emily White Markham by establishing Elizabeth White Markham Way at the corner of 44th Street and 28th Avenue.

Elizabeth, born in 1940 in Queens, was a dedicated community leader, activist, and mentor who called Astoria home for over 50 years.

She raised her children and lots of other children, including community leaders in our district with resilience and commitment working in local supermarkets, advocating for workers' rights, volunteering in organizations like the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, a fierce advocate for LGBTQ plus rights.
