Velma McKenzie, a homeowner near the proposed Arrow Laundry development, expresses opposition to the project as presented. She criticizes the lack of community engagement by Arrow Laundry and compares it unfavorably to other development projects that have shown more respect for existing communities.

  • McKenzie highlights the contrast between Arrow Laundry's approach and other projects like 2185 Boyle Street, which considered the existing urban design.
  • She accuses Arrow Laundry of polluting the land, failing to clean up spills, and having wage disputes with employees.
  • The testimony emphasizes the desire for more appropriate urban design that respects the current community, while not opposing residential development in principle.

Great.
5:01:11
Thank you so much.
5:01:13
So much has been said today.
5:01:15
I think the only thing I would like to add at this point is, first of all, I am a homeowner that will be in the shadow of these buildings once they are built.
5:01:25
I am opposed to the buildings, as presented by Arrow Laundry.
5:01:32
I was at the Brooklyn Borough, Newark Review back on October 9th, and the thing one of the things that struck me was there's 2 other projects that were being presented, 2185 Boyle Street and 48581 Grant Avenue.
5:01:47
What struck me was the number of people from the community that literally stood at the podium with these developers when the when they were proposing and asking for the rezoning because they the community be had have been engaged, which has not happened with, Arrow Laundry, which is not surprising.
5:02:11
At the the 2 and 2185 Boyle Street, the presenter, one of the things he says is that this it he presented today also.
5:02:19
The the property is the buildings are gonna be between 4 9 stories.
5:02:24
One of the 6 story buildings, they're presenting at 6 stories because, quote, there are brownstones there, end quote, it is more appropriate urban design, which is what we're asking for.
5:02:38
We're totally fine building residential on that property is I've expected it for years.
5:02:45
But what we're asking for is more appropriate urban design.
5:02:50
2185 Boyle Street and 581 Grant Avenue are being respectful of the community that is currently there.
5:02:57
Are we asking Errol to be respectful of the community?
5:03:00
We kinda don't expect it anymore.
5:03:02
Errol has polluted the land that they sit on.
5:03:05
They have not cleaned up the spills.
5:03:06
They have been dragged into court by their own employees for wage disputes.
5:03:11
