Veronica Yurovsky, a resident of Park Slope, expresses strong support for the Arrow Linen rezoning project. She emphasizes the urgent need for more housing in New York City, particularly in neighborhoods like Park Slope and Windsor Terrace, to address the ongoing housing shortage and affordability crisis.

  • Highlights the difficulty for working people and families to afford living in Park Slope and Windsor Terrace without rent-stabilized housing or extreme luck
  • Argues that increasing housing supply, both market-rate and subsidized, is crucial to give renters relief from rising rents
  • Dismisses concerns about building height, stating that a 13-story building should not be considered a high-rise in New York City

Hi.
5:25:23
Good afternoon, everyone.
5:25:24
Thank you for the opportunity to speak to you today and for listening to all of us so patiently.
5:25:30
As a renter and a resident of Park Slope I enthusiastically support the arrow linen rezoning as proposed and I'm thrilled that council member Henifa's expressed support for it.
5:25:41
I hope the committee does as well and approves it ASAP.
5:25:45
It is a news to anyone who actually lives in our neighborhood or anywhere in New York City that- the matter- that we're in the middle of a housing shortage I personally know of many people who have been priced out of the neighborhoods they've called home for many years, if not out of the city entirely.
5:26:05
Park Slope and Windsor Terrace specifically have long ceased to be neighborhoods that working people and families can call home without winning a stabilized housing lottery or the literal powerball lottery.
5:26:17
We badly need more housing supply market rate or subsidized that would allow renters to gain even a minuscule reprieve against rising rents.
5:26:27
As long as we don't have enough housing, landlords can raise the rents by however much they want and our only choice if we can't pay is to leave.
5:26:35
Leave the neighborhood, leave the city, or even leave the state.
5:26:39
If this neighborhood claims to be for working people and families, we should be encouraging the building of as much housing as possible instead of complaining about how a 13 story building is a high rise in a city of the Empire State Building and the Freedom Tower.
5:26:56
Turning Arrow Linen site into housing should be a no brainer, and I hope it is the first project of many.
5:27:03
Thank you for listening.
