Council Member Alexa Aviles raises concerns about alarming messages being communicated to residents in non-DHS shelters regarding relocation. Molly Schaeffer from OASO responds to these concerns.

  • Aviles reports receiving numerous complaints about problematic messaging in shelters
  • Residents are interpreting messages as immediate eviction notices, causing chaos and anxiety
  • Schaeffer states that notices are given in multiple languages and case managers are involved in the communication process
  • OASO uses both case managers and front door staff to communicate with guests about necessary moves
  • Schaeffer requests specific examples of problematic communication to investigate and address the issues
  • The exchange highlights the need for clearer communication strategies during the shelter transition process
