In the face of draconian immigration policies, New York City has risen to the occasion to protect our communities in the past.
0:09:24
In 2017, under the leadership of former speaker Melissa Mark Bibarito, the council worked with the administration, and mayor Bill de Blasio to codify our sanctuary protections, to expand the role of the mayor's office of immigrant affairs, also known as Moya, to protect immigrant students and consumers, and to safeguard the privacy of all New Yorkers, regardless of citizenship or immigration status.

Because of these legal fortifications, the city cannot collude with ICE in enacting Donald Trump's promised family separation schemes.
0:10:05
Moya should be proud of its history of working alongside the council to fortify sanctuary protections and safeguard our immigrant communities.

New Yorkers need their city government to exhibit that same leadership now.
0:10:21
This council remains ready to work with Moya to stand up against the oppressive immigration policies, to work alongside our immigrant neighbors, and to protect our community's future.
