Acting Commissioner Lojan explains DSNY's approach to maintaining supplies and stockpiles for the winter season. The department focuses on maximizing capacity rather than forecasting for small events.

  • DSNY maintains a capacity of about 350,000 tons of salt
  • They stock 386 gallons of calcium chloride and over 75,000 gallons of brine
  • The department replenishes supplies after each event to maintain full stock
  • DSNY does not forecast for small events, instead focusing on maximizing overall capacity

What are what what exactly are the metrics that DSNY uses to estimate to estimate the amount of supplies and stockpiles needed for the upcoming winter season?

So we have our inventory.
0:12:33
We have, about 350,000 tons of salt capacity, 386 gallons of calcium chloride, capacity.
0:12:42
And then brine, we have over 75,000 gallons.
0:12:44
So we don't really forecast, for small events.
0:12:49
What we try to do is maximize capacity.
0:12:51
And then after every event, our operations, office replenishes that, and we make sure that we stay, you know, fully stocked.

Okay.
