Our young people are navigating a complex world, and it is imperative that we not only equip them with the knowledge to identify mental health, but also empower them with with the supports that affects that are effective and necessary.

I'm happy and hopefully passing intro 996 a legislation that will establish a peer based mental health, program for all New York students, a critical tool, in our fight against growing mental health crisis among young people.

This legislation will not just be about a training.

It will be about changing the culture within schools to have more empathy, understanding, and proactive support by fostering a community where students look out for one another and they can be equipped and have ripple effects of awareness and assistance that extend far beyond the classroom.
