Commissioner Molly Wasow Park discusses the eligibility process and available statistics for CityFHEPS vouchers. The process is described as iterative and ongoing, making it difficult to provide specific ineligibility numbers.
- The eligibility process for CityFHEPS differs from other benefits, with an ongoing assessment rather than a single application moment.
- Initial eligibility assessment occurs early and is repeated as circumstances change.
- In FY24, 13,400 households leased up with CityFHEPS.
- For the current fiscal year through December, 71,100 households have leased up.
- As of December, there were 51,921 households currently receiving CityFHEPS assistance.

Councilwoman Caban, did you wanna ask a follow-up question on that, since that was your bill?
0:19:45
Oh, we don't have core.
0:19:46

Send it to Alexa.

How many households were found, ineligible well, eligible for CityFabs vouchers in the previous and current fiscal year, and can you disaggregate by household type?
Molly Wasow Park

So the eligibility process for section 8 for, excuse me, for city facts is is slightly different than the eligibility process for many other benefits where you have a clear cut, I am applying, and then and there is a yes no rejection moment, you know, as is the case for, say, SNAP or cash assistance.

this, sort of early upfront and frankly rolling assessment about eligibility.
0:20:26
If you appear to pass that upfront of the eligibility, assessment, right, you are on you're in shelter, you're on cash assistance, you have some work income, you get the shopping letter.
0:20:37
At that point, the formal eligibility of of processing the voucher happens much later after the client has has identified the apartment.
0:20:49
And but because we've done that early assessment, we find there's almost never a formal ineligibility determination.
0:20:56
And if a if a household is, doesn't appear to pass the initial upfront assessment on on day 1, we'll do it again at day 3, at day 5, at day 10, right, as their circumstances change.
0:21:09
So it's much more of an iterative and rolling process, so which is a long winded way of saying I don't really have ineligible numbers to give you.
