Council Member Hudson inquires about staffing shortages and challenges in retaining qualified staff at OACs in NYCHA facilities. NYC Department for the Aging representatives discuss the broader issues affecting social service programs.
- Staffing challenges are common across social service programs, not specific to NYCHA OACs
- Difficulty in attracting people to work with older adults is a broader issue
- Acknowledgment of the City Council's support for workforce enhancement initiatives
- Emphasis on the importance of making human services sector jobs more attractive
- Council's commitment to delivering investments needed for city workers and services

Great.
0:59:46
Thank you.

And then are there any staffing shortages or challenges in retaining qualified staff to work at centers and NYCHA facilities as opposed to other OACs?
UNKNOWN
0:59:55
You know, overall it's difficult, I think, for social service programs to hire staff.
0:59:59
That is a struggle that we've seen across the network, not just older adult centers.
1:00:03
So it's not necessarily a bigger issue in NYCHA old, OACs, but it is something that we are, you know, always concerned about and looking into how do we get more, you know, more people interested in working with older adults really.
1:00:15
I think that's the bigger issue we we face.

And I just wanna say thank you again, counsel, for your support of the workforce.
1:00:24
Right?
1:00:24
The COLA, the cost of living adjustment and all the workforce enhancement initiatives and those things that, we've been fighting for for years years years beyond this current administration, those things are important to the human services sector as a whole and this has to be more attractive.
1:00:40
I started in nonprofits at making nothing, and that still shouldn't be the case, 25 years later.
1:00:48
Right?
1:00:48
So thank you for that partnership.
1:00:50
Our goal is to make sure all those dollars are getting where they need to be, and continue to lift the lift up our human services workers because they're the ones doing the work.

Well, I will not miss an opportunity to say that the council will always deliver the investments that are absolutely needed and that are best for the city and including its workers.
1:01:11
So thank you for saying that.
1:01:12
I'm gonna, move over to, Chair Banks for some questions and then I'll be back.
