Council Member Brewer raises concerns about tracking and prioritizing repairs in NYCHA senior buildings, focusing on issues like heat, elevators, and grab bar installations. NYCHA representatives explain their processes for handling these issues.

  • NYCHA prioritizes elevator outages for older adults, especially those with impairments
  • Heat outages in senior buildings are also prioritized when reported
  • Grab bar installations typically take about a month to complete
  • Brewer emphasizes the need for long-term solutions to recurring building issues

Finally, just, on database and tracking.
1:38:48
So, obviously, some buildings have we know them.
1:38:51
You know which ones they are.
1:38:52
They got the heat.
1:38:53
They got the heat problems, the elevator problems, etcetera, in the senior buildings, particularly.
1:38:57
So how do you do you track those?
1:38:59
Do you focus on them?
1:39:01
Prioritize them?
1:39:03
I call, you know, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for Yucca and everybody else.
1:39:07
But, that in other words, how are you are they improving these statistics on the heat, the elevator, and the grab bars.
1:39:17
Grab bars take a month, apparently, to get go ahead.
1:39:21
Sure.
Ukah Busgith
1:39:22
And so in terms of elevator outages, if someone has to call in the ticket, the ticket agent will confirm if it's a older adult, especially if they have, an impairment, or they're in a wheelchair waiting for the elevator to be restored.
1:39:38
So those will be prioritized for, and it's you know, if it's off hours, it's also flagged for the emergency response team and we'll address it soon.
Gale A. Brewer
1:39:46
But then long term, it's gonna break down again.
1:39:49
So, was that elevator prioritized for more repairs?
1:39:53
Just because because it is a senior building.
Ukah Busgith
1:39:56
Right.
1:39:57
So, again, if we if it comes we have to, replace the elevator, that's a long term capital project.
Gale A. Brewer
1:40:03
And how about the heat?
Ukah Busgith
1:40:06
Heat outages, again, if it's called in as a ticket.
1:40:09
Okay.
1:40:09
If it's a older adults, we will Okay.
Gale A. Brewer
1:40:12
And and how long do grab bars take to be installed?
Ukah Busgith
1:40:16
It it does probably take a month, like you said.
1:40:18
It's a reasonable accommodation request and it's, addressed by our property management as they receive the work order.
1:40:24
Okay.
Gale A. Brewer
1:40:25
Alright.
1:40:25
Thank you.
1:40:26
I do think that you you guys are working hard.
1:40:28
The programs are good.
1:40:30
It's the buildings that are collapsing around them.
1:40:31
That's the problem.
1:40:32
Not the great programs.
1:40:34
So I know you gotta it's gotta be fixed somehow.
1:40:38
Alright.
1:40:38
Thank you.
Ukah Busgith
1:40:39
Thank you.
