Director Kathleen Baer of NYPD's Special Victims Division explains the process of rescuing children from trafficking situations and involving ACS. She outlines the initial steps taken when a child is recovered from a trafficking situation.

  • A minimal facts interview is conducted by the investigator to gather initial information
  • The investigator determines if the situation involves trafficking
  • ACS is immediately contacted to decide on placement and services for the child
  • This process is followed for every case where a youth is recovered from a trafficking situation

Good afternoon, everyone.
1:17:15
I'm director Kathleen Baer from NYPD.
1:17:18
Also, we work with ACS.
1:17:21
Basically, as soon as we rescue a child out of a situation.
1:17:24
What happens is there's a minimal fax interview done by the investigator to determine as much as as they can find out about what happened and see if this is trafficking.
1:17:36
And they're immediately contacting ACS to then determine where does this child go and what services are they going to be getting.
1:17:45
So that's on every case where a youth is recovered from one of these situations.
