Council Member Brewer inquires about the formal mechanisms in place to track trends in complaints. Commissioner Strauber explains their current and upcoming systems for managing and analyzing complaint data.

  • Use of a searchable case management system to record and document all complaints
  • Upcoming upgrade to a new system with enhanced tagging and search capabilities
  • Clarification that the database is for internal use only and not publicly accessible

My staff stays stays 20 years.
1:10:00
I just want you to know.
1:10:02
What are the formal mechanisms in place to track trends in complaints?
1:10:07
That's really important.
1:10:08
What are the formal mechanisms to track complaints?
1:10:11
In other words, Gail Brewer calls up, says, you know, I have a complaint.
1:10:15
Yeah.
1:10:15
How do you track?
1:10:16
I know you mentioned that you track even if you refer to CCRB or to the Federal Monitor or whatever, you keep track.
1:10:23
But how do you do all that?
Jocelyn Strauber
1:10:24
So so we we have a searchable case management system that we've had for many, many years, and we record and document all of the complaints that we receive whether we refer them out or not.
1:10:34
We have recently upgraded, to a new system that is about to go live that will give us an even more fine tuned ability, let's say, to run tags and search terms.
1:10:45
So not only could you input a complaint into the system and then, you know, search it in various ways, you'll now be able to tag it as related to one of the community response teams or related to, you know, stop and frisk or and then you will be able to literally, like, push a button and generate stats about that particular type of complaint.
1:11:06
So that's how we're gonna do it going forward.
Gale A. Brewer
1:11:07
And that's not public.
1:11:08
Right?
1:11:08
Or is it public?
Jocelyn Strauber
1:11:09
No.
1:11:09
It's not public.
1:11:10
Like, it's it's like our internal database case management system.
1:11:14
It is very much not public.
1:11:15
Okay.
