Council Member Salaam inquires about DOI's stance on City Council potentially enacting local laws to enforce recommendations rejected by the NYPD. Commissioner Strauber provides a nuanced response, emphasizing the need for case-by-case consideration.
- DOI would want to answer on a case-by-case basis due to the variety of recommendations
- City Council's support is crucial, and DOI appreciates the focus on their work
- Strauber suggests a thoughtful approach to determine which aspects are best handled through legislation versus other means
- DOI expresses willingness to engage in dialogue with the Council on this matter

And, this is my last question.

Jocelyn Strauber

That's a question I think I would wanna answer on a case by case basis, because our recommendations really vary.
1:01:53
I mean, sometimes they're very specific.
1:01:56
Sometimes they involve broader policy change.
1:01:59
So I I would I would wanna think about that.
1:02:01
The city council support is is very important to us, and and I think it it plays a very important role.
1:02:07
Part of the reason that we issue these reports, you know, publicly and in detail so that there really is a blueprint for what we're proposing.
1:02:15
But I would just wanna be thoughtful on whether and which aspects of what we propose are best handled through legislation versus some other way.
1:02:24
But that is certainly a dialogue we would wanna have.
1:02:26
And if the council is is interested in doing that, we would very much wanna be a part of that process and and very much appreciate, you know, the focus and attention to the work that we're doing with the NYPD.
