Council Member Williams inquires about potential new legislation to strengthen the work of the Inspector General's office. Commissioner Strauber doesn't have immediate recommendations but welcomes the opportunity to provide future input.

  • The DOI is assessing the status of implementation for all recommendations
  • Commissioner Strauber offers to return with specific, critical recommendations that are still relevant and not implemented
  • There's acknowledgment of past instances where council recommendations became legislation
  • Council Member Williams suggests the DOI could make recommendations to the committee for potential legislation to compel agencies to implement important recommendations

Okay.
1:20:26
And then lastly, would do you have any current recommendations on, like, further legislation that, you know, we could introduce as a council to strengthen the work, whether it's, you know, to strengthen the work around, like, the reporting and accessibility of information within the department or, you know, the lack of a particular recommendation being taken up by the department?
1:20:49
Do you have any current recommendations that you feel, you know, should or might require a legislative remedy
Marianne Pizzitola
1:20:58
that we can take up.
Jocelyn Strauber
1:20:59
I I don't right now, but I really appreciate the question.
1:21:01
And I think that, you know, one of one of the things that we've been doing sort of across the agency as we look and try to assess the status of implementation of all the recommendations we make is really think about what are the most important, and we would welcome the opportunity to come back to you, you know, as we look back over the work that the unit has done if there are specific recommendations that we think are critical that are still relevant and that are not implemented.
1:21:23
So I don't have anything to offer today, but I appreciate that invitation very much.
1:21:27
And and I know there have been instances in the past where the council has taken recommendations we've made, and those have become legislation.
1:21:34
And like I said before, we we always appreciate that support very much.
1:21:38
Yeah.
Nantasha M. Williams
1:21:38
I think, like, you know, savvy council members will, like, look at the recommendations and think about, you know, potential legislation.
1:21:46
But the same way that you, like, make recommendations to the agencies, I think it would be really good to, like, make recommendations, like, to the chair or, like, even members of the committee around, like, hey, you know, the NYPD or, you know, even other relevant agencies that you investigate didn't take up said recommendation.
1:22:04
We think it might be useful to potentially introduce legislation to kind of of, like, compel them to do it, that would be helpful.
1:22:11
Yep.
1:22:12
No.
1:22:12
I appreciate that.
