Council Member Rita Joseph requested data on preschoolers waiting for related services. Jessica Wallenstein from the DOE provided the following information:
- 5,861 preschool students are waiting for at least one of their related services to begin, which is 23% of eligible students
- 3,402 students are waiting for their special education itinerant teacher (SEIT) services to begin, which is 52.9% of eligible students
- 5,657 preschool students are receiving no services at all, which is 22.2% of eligible students
Wallenstein noted that these numbers are from their new data system and may change due to ongoing data migration. The data includes both 3K and pre-K students, as they are generally combined for special education purposes.
