Council Member Ariola inquires about FDNY's decision to prohibit fireworks and open flames citywide in response to brush fires. Chief Esposito explains the rationale behind this decision and its potential benefits.
- Prohibition was implemented during a 30-day period with little rainfall and very dry conditions
- Ban on barbecues and fireworks was seen as beneficial in preventing fires
- Such prohibitions are rare, with this instance being the first in years
- Decision was influenced by dry parkland conditions and wind factors

I don't know that we've done that in, it it's been years at least, if we have done that before.

But knowing that that, all that parkland was so dry, we had those wind conditions.

I believe that it was beneficial even though we we like our firework shows and and things like that that, you know, it it had a it had a benefit and hopefully, prevented some some other fires.
