Council Member Mercedes Narcisse asks about how issues with assigned tablets are addressed. Deputy Commissioner Nell McCarty explains the multiple ways inmates can report and resolve tablet issues.

  • Inmates can submit inquiries directly through their tablets
  • There are hotlines available for the division of programs
  • Social service staff and program counselors visit housing areas regularly
  • Formal grievances can be submitted through the department's grievance process or by calling 311

If a person is in custody, has an issue with their assigned tablet, how is that addressed?

Thank you.

There's actually multiple ways.
0:43:11
So there is a way for them to submit an inquiry through their tablet directly.
0:43:15
But if the tablet, issue that they're having is one that it's, you know, not operational, there are then, again, further further options.
0:43:23
There are hotlines that they can call for the division of programs.
0:43:26
We also do have, social service staff and program counselors who visit housing areas, at varying cadences weekly, for sure, sometimes in most cases daily.
0:43:37
And And so they would have an opportunity to speak to that staff personnel, provide their complaint, and then that complaint would be provided directly to the tablet staff.
0:43:46
They can also submit a formal grievance, through the department's grievance process or through calling 311.
0:43:53
So that would be collected and gathered as well.
0:43:56
Mhmm.
