And you know, we went after this $19,300,000 grant.
1:11:54
We're proud to have it.
1:11:57
There were some cuts to that grant, but we're happy to have it.
1:12:01
Because we know that medical schools are built on a couple of things.
1:12:05
Now there's the tuition.
1:12:06
We don't want to be tuition dependent.
1:12:08
Because if you're tuition dependent, you're just sort of cranking the kids in.
1:12:11
Right?
1:12:12
We want to not just get kids in.
1:12:15
We want to get them out.
1:12:17
We want supremely competent physicians going out there to take care of New Yorkers.
1:12:21
1.
1:12:22
2, you know, I I would say that, from that perspective, you know, medical schools are built on so you have NIH funding, federal funding.
1:12:37
You have foundation funding.
1:12:40
You have governmental funding.
1:12:43
When I got here, we probably had $3,000,000 in NIH funding.
1:12:47
We've actually tripled that in 3 years.
1:12:50
And this $19,300,000 grant isn't included in that.
1:12:54
And the year to date is not over with.
1:12:56
So we are doing great things and we're working really hard.
1:13:00
But investment is needed.
1:13:02
You know, it's unusual for a dean to be sitting down over the holidays writing this type of grant to support their students.
1:13:13
And actually, this grant, the $19,300,000 grant is really focused in Harlem.
1:13:20
You know, the upper part of Harlem and the South Bronx.
1:13:25
And areas that are are really in need.
1:13:27
So, thank you for the question.
