Council Member Amanda Farías inquires about the plans for current tenants of the community space during and after construction. Brian Backscheider from The Community Builders outlines their approach:

  • The development team has worked closely with existing tenants to design spaces that meet their programming needs.
  • During construction, tenants will be relocated off-site within the neighborhood.
  • The team has collaborated with tenants to understand their space and timing needs for relocation.
  • Considerations include finding suitable locations within East Harlem that are convenient for the tenants' clients.
  • The goal is to ensure a smooth transition for the tenants during the construction period.

And has the development team been working with current tenants of the community space to ensure that they do have priority in moving back into the building once it's constructed?
0:15:59
And if so, what's the plan, or these tenants for these tenants during this time period?
Brian Backscheider
0:16:06
Sure.
0:16:06
Yeah.
0:16:06
So we've worked very closely with all of the existing tenants in the building.
0:16:11
The spaces, the the the design of the the finished spaces has been done in concert with them so that the designs are to meet their programming.
0:16:21
They're not just, just vanilla boxes.
0:16:24
They are designed for their use.
0:16:26
And as I mentioned, during relocation or during construction, they'll be relocated off-site.
0:16:32
We've worked very closely with them to understand what those needs are, both their, you know, the space needs, also their timing needs, you know, when's a good time to move, when's not a good time to move, where, you know, their clients are coming from, like, so locating it within the neighborhood, block to block, what's a good block in East Harlem to to move to, what's not a such a good block to move to, for the clients.
0:16:55
And so we've worked very closely, to to make sure that that's as smooth as it can be.
