Carmen Cruz, a member of the New York Taxi Workers Alliance with over eleven years of experience driving for Uber and Lyft, testified against reducing insurance coverage for ride-hailing drivers. She emphasized that the proposed savings of $600 per year are not worth the increased risk to drivers.
- Cruz argued that $600 in savings is insufficient compared to the overall costs drivers face
- She suggested that ride-hailing companies should instead offer drivers a pay raise to help cover expenses
- The testimony indicates opposition to Intro 1050, which proposes lowering PIP insurance requirements

She says, good morning.

My name is Carmen Cruz.

I'm a member of the New York Taxi Workers Alliance, and I have more than eleven years striving with Uber and Lyft.

So to start off, I'd like to make clear that we as drivers are not interested in saving $600 a year if it's going to put at risk.
1:55:01
It's simply not worth it to, save such small amount of money for such a great risk and such a large amount of coverage.
1:55:15
$600 of savings is not nearly enough for all of the costs that we are experiencing.
1:55:36
A much better idea from the companies that are pushing these bills would be if these two companies would give us a pay raise to be able to pay for our expenses.
