Today, I'm proud to introduce a resolution with my colleagues, council members Lynn Shulman and Shahana Hanif, calling to fully fund, a mental health solution.
1:17:35
We're calling on New York State to increase funding for assertive community treatment teams or ACT teams, an evidence based community oriented around the clock mental health treatment program.
1:17:46
ACT teams are a multidisciplinary group of mental health professionals who provide intensive community based treatment and support to individuals with severe and persistent mental illnesses.
1:17:55
They offer services directly in homes and communities, often including twenty four seven access to support and crisis intervention.

And it works.
1:18:03
Act teams help people with severe mental illness become independent and stay in their communities.
1:18:09
But act teams are currently under resourced and understaffed.
1:18:12
This data driven solution should be funded and scaled to tackle the magnitude of our mental health crisis.
1:18:17
So thank you to both of my cosponsors, and I ask my colleagues in the council to sign on, to this resolution for the health and safety of New Yorkers.

Thank you.
