Council Member Vickie Paladino introduces Resolution 739, which urges the state legislature to pass legislation ensuring equal benefits for families of sanitation workers who died due to the 9/11 World Trade Center attack. The resolution aims to provide the same additional credit on competitive civil service examinations that families of other first responders receive.

The resolution has bipartisan support, including from state assemblyman Sam Berger.
The state assembly bill, named after Ignacio Giacalone, was recently voted out of committee.

Today, I'm honored to introduce resolution seven three nine, which urges the state legislature to pass and the governor to sign legislation that ensures the children and siblings of sanitation workers who lost their lives as a result of the World Trade Center attack to receive the same and additional credit on, competitive civil service examinations as their families of other first responders.

This is a bipartisan effort with strong support from state assemblyman Sam Berger as well as my colleagues here in council.

Our sanitation workers played a critical role in the aftermath of these attacks, demonstrating the same courage and sacrifice as other first responders.

By passing this resolution, we reaffirm our commitment to fairness and honor the memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
