Council Member Kristy Marmorato inquires about job opportunities for veterans within the shelter system and after leaving shelters. Officials from the Department of Homeless Services and Department of Veterans' Services provide information on employment support for veterans.
- Shelter providers work with residents to secure both housing and employment
- Employment workshops and connections with sister agencies like HRA through Business Link are available
- DVS staff embedded at Borden Avenue shelter focus on employment assistance
- DVS made a concerted effort to hire veterans for their staff at Borden Avenue shelter

And I I just have one more question.
0:58:11
So at these shelters, how many of the people working there are actually veterans themselves?
0:58:16
Like, is there, like, a process to give them a job opportunity once they leave the shelter or maybe have them working as they're living there?

So, again, not only specific to veterans, but for all of our residents that need support.
0:58:32
The providers work with each and every one of them to secure not only housing, but employment.
0:58:37
So if someone enters shelter and they have a skill set that can help them land a job, we work with them.
0:58:44
There are employment workshops.
0:58:45
We connect with our sister agencies at HRA through Business Link.
0:58:49
So we do work with our veterans and nonveterans to ensure that they are employed if they are able to do so.
0:58:56
And again, linking them to whatever services that they may need that is specific to them as individuals as well as their families if there's a families with children household.

like to address that the staff that are embedded at Borden Avenue, that's part of their their tasking.
0:59:15
They're there two, three times a week, and we made a concerted effort to just hire veterans.

That's great.

I'd like to hear that.
0:59:25
Thank you.
0:59:26
