Council Member Williams asks about incorporating racial equity indicators into agency reporting, such as the Mayor's Management Report (MMR). Commissioner Sherman explains MOERJ's approach to integrating racial equity metrics into existing reporting structures.
- MOERJ aims to integrate racial equity indicators with existing reports like the MMR
- The Mayor's Office of Operations, which manages the MMR, has been engaged in the racial equity planning process
- Efforts are being made to build consistency between racial equity plan indicators and MMR indicators
- This approach aims to streamline reporting for agencies and provide a comprehensive view for New Yorkers
- MOERJ is also in the process of expanding its staff:
- Current headcount is 37 (excluding certain initiatives)
- 25 positions are filled, 3 candidates are in the pipeline, and 10 positions are in the hiring phase
- The goal is to complete all hiring by the end of the fiscal year

Yeah, okay.
1:01:48
Well keep us posted.
1:01:49
I just, I don't know maybe it's just me, I mean I'm the only one here just I don't I don't want you like tucked away in a corner and not have like the resources in like just physical space to do the work you need to do.

So many city agencies are required to submit a preliminary mayor's management report and it includes indicators that they use to track their work.
1:02:13
Have you or will you provide any advice to these agencies as to indicators they could add to track if they were reflecting racial equity priorities?
1:02:22
So you know that is like are you thinking about how to incorporate racial equity into these other like structures and documents that these various agencies produce on a regular cadence?
Sideya Sherman
1:02:34
Absolutely, so that's certainly a goal and where we want to get long term bringing more integration between those two reports.
1:02:41
One thing I will share is as part of this process we've also been able to engage the mayor's office of operation who manages the mayor's management report.
1:02:49
They joined all of our training with trainings with the racial equity planning teams and gave a really wonderful training on developing indicators and outcomes.
1:02:58
And we've also worked to build some consistency between the indicators that are in the racial equity plan and the indicators that are in the MMR, right, so that there's not only streamline reporting for agencies, but so that New Yorkers can sort of see the big picture.
Nantasha M. Williams
1:03:14
Okay, so you talked about how you've expanded the team on the racial equity side in general overall.
1:03:25
Are you currently engaged in any process to expand your staff?
1:03:30
If so, could you share any information in regards to the number of openings, titles, any other hiring timelines?
Sideya Sherman
1:03:37
Sure, so we our headcount is 37 within our MOERJ budget that does not include the Commission on Gender Equity and the Young Men's Initiative.
1:03:50
So just within our overarching MOERJ budget we are at 37.
1:03:55
Headcount, we have 25 positions filled.
1:03:58
We have three candidates who are in the pipeline as we speak, who hopefully will be onboarded soon for roles, and we have 10 positions that are still in the hiring phase.
1:04:07
So, somewhere between interviews, offers, and so our goal is to complete over all of our hiring by the end of this fiscal year.
