Council Member Rita Joseph inquires about the reasons given for closing the early childhood centers and whether any future plans have been communicated. The representatives share the limited information they've received.
- Reasons given for closures: under-enrollment, over-saturation of seats in the community, and lease expiration
- No plans communicated by NYC Public Schools beyond June 2026
- Families are relieved about the one-year extension but concerned about long-term prospects

And what was what was the reasoning behind them closing the locations?
Ingrid Matias Chungata

So one was under enrollment, over saturation of seats in our community and our lease coming up for renewal.
Rita Joseph
0:22:08
Oversaturation.
0:22:09
Okay.
0:22:13
Does New York City Public School communicate what's the plan for your program beyond June of twenty twenty six?
0:22:20
No.
0:22:21
So you have no idea?
0:22:23
No.
0:22:24
Okay.
0:22:25
What has been the response from the families that you served?
Ingrid Matias Chungata

It was a relief to be able to apply for an additional year but families that have two year olds then they know that the following year they wouldn't have a program to attend.
0:22:40
So it's disheartening for our community.
Rita Joseph

Absolutely.
