Public Advocate Jumaane Williams and NYPD officials engage in a discussion about the effectiveness of the gang database in preventing crime, particularly in Brooklyn. Chief Lipetri provides examples of how the database has been used in precision policing efforts.
- Lipetri cites Brooklyn as having its safest year in 30 years of CompStat history
- He attributes this success partly to precision policing using the criminal group database
- Lipetri explains how the database helps in resource deployment and connecting information about guns, crews, and territories
- The discussion highlights the use of the database in specific neighborhoods like East New York, Brownsville, and Bedford Stuyvesant

Michael LiPetri
1:18:14
Yes.
1:18:14
I I mean so we're we're shifting to the criminal database?
Jumaane Williams
1:18:19

We're in DNA now we're shifting.
1:18:25
Okay.
1:18:26
Let me let me just start with this.
1:18:30
You know, last year was the safest year in the history of the thirty years of CompStat where we started accurately recording crime statistics in Brooklyn.

Brooklyn, safest year in thirty year history.
Jumaane Williams
1:18:46
Is the database only exist in Brooklyn?
Michael LiPetri
1:18:48
No.
1:18:48
But I'm gonna if I can finish, I'd appreciate it.
1:18:51
Thank you.
1:18:52
A large part of that was precision policing using our investigative precision and our deployment precision in neighborhoods such as East New York, Brownsville, Bedford Stuyvesant, Crown Heights, East Flatbush.
1:19:09
And the criminal group database was a part of that, knowing instantaneously where shooting was in the Vanderviers in East Flatbush and moving resources as far as Far Rockaway in Southern Queens.
1:19:24
Moving resources to Brownsville, Brooklyn, East New York, Brooklyn.
1:19:28
And how do I know that?
1:19:30
Because I'm a large part of that.
1:19:32
It's about deployment.
1:19:33
It's about precision.
1:19:34
It's about looking at the trigger pullers in New York City and putting it all together.
1:19:41
Lincoln's analysis, connecting guns, connecting crews, connecting territories, long and hard work for our investigators.
