Council Member Chris Banks inquires about the process of selecting materials for renovations and whether tenants are involved. Jonathan Gouveia explains that in recent projects, NYCHA has improved resident involvement in material selection.

  • NYCHA now builds model units in every PACT development for residents to see
  • Residents are given samples of flooring materials, kitchen cabinets, tiles, etc.
  • Residents can provide input on finishes and products they prefer
  • This level of involvement was not present in the earliest PACT conversions but has evolved over time

So the materials per se, how those materials selected?
2:17:04
Are the tenants involved in that process as far as the type of materials or the quality of materials that have been
Jonathan Gouveia
2:17:12
In our most recent projects, yes.
2:17:14
One of the things that we've been do we did not again, we did not do it in their very first packed conversions.
2:17:19
But over the years, we've done a few things.
2:17:21
Number one, in every packed development, there is a model unit that is built where residents can see what a renovated apartment could look like.
2:17:29
They are often given samples of flooring materials, kitchen cabinets, backsplashes, kitchen tiles, you know, bathroom tiles, the whole range.
2:17:38
And residents can opine on what finishes, what products they would like to see in the apartments.
2:17:43
And again, I want to be clear, I admit we did not do that in the very beginning, but it is reflective of the way that the program has evolved.
