Identity theft is a crime that often targets our most vulnerable neighbors including the elderly who often face difficulties navigating the process for filing complaints with the NYPD.

This process is particularly important in the civil context as individuals who have had their identity stolen often need valid police reports in order to prevent collection of debt that was fraudulently occurred or to clear one's credit report.

I believe that this bill will take steps to improve public understanding on how to file identity theft complaints with the NYPD and ensure that officers are given the appropriate training on receiving and investigating identity theft complaints.
