Council Member De La Rosa inquires about the potential impact of the current layoffs on Brooklyn Museum's access to future city funding. Commissioner Cumbo responds, clarifying DCLA's stance.
- The layoffs and current financial difficulties will not result in reduced funding from DCLA
- DCLA provides about 20% of the Brooklyn Museum's total operating costs
- The agency aims to strategize and have tangible conversations about supporting the museum during this challenging time
- The focus is on finding ways to help rather than penalizing the institution for its current financial struggles

Laurie Cumbo

It's not going to affect the the fact that they are in a difficult financial position right now and that they are experiencing layoffs is not going to cause us to say, we think that your funding should be reduced because you have fewer workers at this time and you should also have a reduction in your funding.

Again, we're only about 20% of the of the Brooklyn Museum's total staffing excuse me, operation costs.

So we're not going to reduce the museum's funding.

We're gonna try to figure out ways that we can strategize to be able to have real tangible conversations about how we should help and support during this time.
