Thank you, councilman.
0:12:40
I appreciate your efforts to bring these bills forward, your great advocacy, you know, regarding clean air in the community that you represent and the city at large.
0:12:55
And thank you for recognizing all of the good advocates who give their time and talent, you know, to make sure that concerns are heard.

This is a lot of how the council works.
0:13:14
It's the advocacy community that really drives a lot of the work that we do.

I have in my hand remarks from a council member who couldn't be here, but very concerned about this issue, Councilmember Brooks Powers.

She is the minority whip.
0:13:46
She wanted me to read her statement into the record, which I'll do now.
0:13:52
So this is as if she's saying it, even though I'm referencing myself.
0:13:58
So I'm going to do it in my own voice.
0:14:01
I'm not going to imitate her voice.
0:14:03
And so, that would be a neat trick.
0:14:07
Good morning and thank you Chair Gennaro for convening today's hearing.

The council member represents Southeast Queens.
0:14:31
Communities like Mine bear a disproportionate burden of pollution from the growing network of warehouses, air cargo, freight facilities, and transportation hubs near JFK Airport, which he does represent.
0:14:48
The indirect source rule is a critical step in regulating facilities that attract high levels of vehicle activity and contribute to harmful emissions.
0:15:00
However, it's essential that we get this right.
0:15:03
She wrote that in bold print.
0:15:06
It's essential that we get this right.
0:15:07
Making sure that facilities like air cargo freight operations are included under the scope of the indirect source rule is vital for communities heavily impacted by truck activity.
0:15:21
I look forward to hearing from the administration and I want to thank my colleague, Councilmember Aviles, her leadership on this issue.
0:15:31
There are questions that are associated with her statement that'll either get folded into the questions that we ask of the administration or we may just give them to the administration to provide, detailed answers to the minority
