Thank you all for being here today for this important oversight hearing on ensuring access to supports for transgender, gender nonconforming, nonbinary people in New York City.

I wanna thank chair Farrah Lewis and the committee on women and gender equity for convening this discussion and for their ongoing commitment to equality and inclusion.
0:12:57
New York City has always been a place where people of all backgrounds can come together to build better lives.
0:13:03
Our diversity is our strength and it is our responsibility to ensure that every New Yorker regardless of gender identity has access to the support, resources, and opportunities they need to thrive.
0:13:13
Over the years, the city has taken important steps to expand protections and services for t g and c n b individuals from increasing access to gender affirming health care to strengthening anti discrimination laws.
0:13:26
But we know there is still more work to do.
0:13:28
Many individuals in this community continue to face barriers in accessing health care, securing stable housing, and finding safe and affirming workplaces.
0:13:36
These challenges affect not just individuals, but families, neighborhoods, and the entire fabric of our city.
0:13:42
Today's hearing is an opportunity to listen, learn, and collaborate on solutions.
0:13:46
We will hear from advocates, service providers, and members of the TGNCMB community about what is working, where gaps remain, and how we can improve city services to better meet people's needs.
0:13:57
Our goal is to ensure that every person, no matter their gender identity, feels safe, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.
0:14:04
I also just wanna take a moment to address an issue that has become even more urgent in recent months, the growing efforts in other states to limit access to gender affirming care and reproductive health care.
0:14:14
That is why I am proud to sponsor a resolution calling on the New York State Legislature to introduce and pass and for the governor to sign legislation to prohibit out of state access to New York's prescription monitoring program data for certain medications including abortion medications, hormone therapy, and puberty blockers.
0:14:32
This legislation is essential to protect the privacy of our transgender, non binary, and gender non conforming residents and ensure they can receive the care they need without fear of surveillance or criminalization.
0:14:44
By working together across government, non profit organizations, and the private sector, we can continue making New York City a leader in inclusivity and opportunity.
0:14:54
I look forward to today's discussion and to finding ways to strengthen our city's commitment to equity and fairness for all.

Thank you.

I'll now hand the mic hand the mic over to chair Lewis.
