Commissioner Castro discusses specific immigrant populations facing more challenges and how MOIA is prioritizing support for them. He highlights the large number of undocumented New Yorkers and those in temporary programs who are at risk.
- Approximately 500,000 undocumented New Yorkers are at heightened risk of detention and deportation
- Tens of thousands more in temporary programs are also at risk
- Hundreds of thousands of legal permanent residents are concerned about their legal status
- MOIA is working with nonprofit providers and advocates to understand priorities
- People with final orders of removal and those who have interacted with the criminal justice system are of particular concern
