Council member Alexa Avilés inquires about changes in service delivery models for adult literacy programs, particularly in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and current political context.

  • Yankwitt notes that some students fear attending in-person programs
  • He highlights the importance of the council's pilot program, which allows for remote learning options
  • The flexibility in service delivery has helped maintain student access to classes

And, Ira, are you experiencing any requests for a change in model?
5:09:42
Like coming out of COVID, we had urgency for remote, then moving back into in person.

Given the political context, are you seeing any shifting happening?
Ira Yankwitt

So for sure, we have heard anecdotally from a number of the programs that we work with that there is understandable fear that students have in coming to in person programs and those programs, especially those that are funded through the council's pilot program, have been able to move to remote because of the flexibility in the model that the council has embraced.

So again, had it not been for the council and your work and that model and that investment, we would probably see fewer students accessing classes because if they were not able or fearful to come in person, they wouldn't have that option of remote as readily.
